For submissions made on or after 29 August 2026, the author or other lawful rights holder retains copyright. Accepted articles are normally published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0).
1. Rights granted to Future Agriculture
By submitting an accepted work for publication, the rights holder grants Future Agriculture a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to publish the article first; reproduce, format, display, distribute and archive it; create accessible or technical versions; and distribute its citation, abstract and metadata. Because this licence is non-exclusive, the author may reuse and deposit the work elsewhere, subject to acknowledging its first publication in Future Agriculture.
2. CC BY 4.0 licence
Unless an article clearly displays a different licence, articles accepted under this policy are licensed under CC BY 4.0. The licence permits readers to copy, redistribute, adapt and use the material for any purpose, including commercially, provided they give appropriate credit, link to the licence and indicate whether changes were made. Reusers must not imply endorsement by the author or Future Agriculture.
3. Third-party material
Photographs, figures, tables, logos, datasets or other third-party content are included under CC BY 4.0 only when the credit line says so or when the rights holder has authorised that use. A separate credit line or rights notice controls. Anyone wishing to reuse excluded material must obtain permission from the relevant rights holder.
4. Earlier articles and agreements
This policy does not retroactively change ownership or licensing under an earlier signed publication agreement. For an article submitted before 29 August 2026, the copyright or licence notice shown on the article or its PDF controls. Free online access alone does not place a work in the public domain.
5. Priority over older submission wording
For submissions made on or after 29 August 2026, this policy supersedes any older Future Agriculture submission guideline stating that authors must transfer copyright ownership to the magazine. Authors retain copyright and grant the publication rights described above.
6. Author assurances
Authors must have authority to submit and license the work, identify all co-authors correctly, disclose any previous publication and secure written permission for material they do not own. Authors should retain copies of permissions and provide them to the editorial office when requested.
7. Website content and branding
The CC BY 4.0 article licence does not automatically apply to the Future Agriculture name, logo, website design, editorial text, compilation or administrative material. Those elements may not be copied in a way that suggests affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement without written permission.
