Smart crop management integrates advanced digital technologies with agronomic practices to improve crop productivity, resource-use efficiency, profitability, and sustainability. It combines the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, machine learning, remote sensing, geographic information systems, drones, sensors, automation, and decision-support systems for real-time crop monitoring and management. Soil and crop sensors provide information on moisture, temperature, nutrients, and plant health, while satellite and drone imagery support early identification of crop stress, pests, and diseases. AI-based models can assist with irrigation scheduling, nutrient optimization, yield prediction, and targeted crop protection. Smart systems can reduce unnecessary use of water, fertilizers, and pesticides while improving production efficiency. Wider adoption requires affordable technologies, reliable connectivity, farmer training, data security, and interoperable digital platforms for sustainable agriculture.
