Digital monitoring systems are transforming livestock health management by enabling continuous, data-driven observation of animal health, behaviour, productivity, and environmental conditions. Wearable sensors, cameras, Internet of Things devices, mobile applications, cloud platforms, and artificial intelligence can detect changes in activity, feeding, rumination, body temperature, movement, milk production, and other indicators. Early identification of abnormal patterns can support timely veterinary examination and intervention, reducing disease-related losses and improving animal welfare. Digital systems also facilitate electronic health records, reproductive monitoring, heat-stress assessment, lameness detection, and environmental management. Despite their potential, challenges include high installation costs, connectivity limitations, sensor accuracy, data security, technical skills, and false alerts. Integrating digital monitoring with veterinary expertise, preventive healthcare, biosecurity, and farmer knowledge can create efficient, sustainable, and precision-oriented livestock health-management systems.
